Blake Fielder-Civil - the ex-husband of late soul superstar Amy Winehouse - is reportedly in a coma after binging on alcohol and heroin, according to reports from The Sun.
Fielder-Civil, who divorced Winehouse in 2009, had reportedly been scheduled to attend a probation meeting at 1pm, but called ahead to say he’d be late as he was with a friend. After returning home with his mate, his current partner Sarah Aspin - with whom Blake has a 15 month-old baby - says he was drunk and slurring his words.
Upset that he’d revisited his less-than-sober past, Aspin put him to bed - only to find him ‘lying there completely grey’ in the morning. The Sun reports that he’d also been taking heroin, and had swallowed his tongue and choked on his tongue. He was then rushed to hospital, and is currently hooked up to a life support machine - unable to awake from his induced coma.
“Blake had a 1pm appointment with the probation service and said he might be late as he was meeting a friend,” Aspin told the tabloid. “He's never really been a drinker, but when he got home with this friend, he was slurring his words and staggering — I thought he was on something. I was very angry because he'd been doing so well.”
She continued: “I had to get his shoes and trousers off to help him into bed. Next morning I went to get up and heard a horrid scratching and grating breathing sound. I looked round and saw Blake lying there completely grey. His eyes were rolled back and his mouth was locked together.
“The doctors say they don't know the prognosis. They said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection. I'm praying he’ll survive, but I'm having to prepare myself that he may never wake up.”
It’s tragic news for his family and friends - he only came out of prison two weeks ago after serving a two year prison sentence for armed robbery, and may be left with permanent brain damage should he even wake up.
Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse has since tweeted about the ‘terrible news’, and urged his daughter’s fans to pray for Blake, saying: “Remember Amy loved him. Let’s pray for his recovery.”
