In June we started having some hard disk problems. Some people may remember when the site was going down a lot back then.
We thought we had sorted out the problems but how wrong we were.
OK so last Friday (Jan 13th) I get back from holidays to find the server down. After a few hours of engineer support (at £100 an hour!) it turns out that the hard drive in the server had totally packed in and was totally unrecoverable to access the latest data. An engineer from our provider is visiting the datacenter on the 26th to see if they can recover the database and files.
Well just as I thought no problem I can recover back to Jan 10th, it turns out that my data backups (to my machine at home) have been corrupt since June and were not useable to recover the site. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
So I apologise to everyone who has lost their posts, avatars, registrations, PMs etc etc. It kind of start again time now.
I am currently working on a new site, which we started before Christmas - but it is still a few weeks away from being launched. It is looking great and will have some wonderful music-related features.
The new forum will fit in well with the new site so I want you guys to try and get back to normal, get posting and hopefully the 6 month of lost data will be a distant memory.
Umm, well this is how things stand at the moment. Because of the lost files it is mission impossible to put the site back to how it was. Which is good in a way because this is like starting a fresh and hopefully I can get the new site launched before the end of Feb.
I will keep everyone updated from this forum over the coming weeks and provide a link for regulars to check out the progress of the new site.
Again apologies for the downtime and the dataloss, I am looking into various ways to make sure this problem never occurs again.
You'll also be glad to hear that we have a brand new 80GB hard drive. |

Personally, I think it's a blessing in disguise.
Just imagine how much faster the server will be now; having all of Local Boys posts since June in the database must've put a mammoth strain on the server. |

its my own fault really I saw it coming when the bulk errors on the hard drive started happening in June - should have changed servers then and there but didn't realise it was corrupting the nightly backups as well which is a real shame.
but as kris said this may be a blessing in disguise and gives us the chance to work on a new site without all the baggage of the old site. |

| it's coming along really well - better than I'd hoped. done loads of work today and will spend the weekend working on the new site. Hopefully can get a soft launch with the news sections and gig guides over the coming week or two. |
