Legendary Boston alt-rockers the Pixies are to release their 2004 'best of' compilation 'Wave of Mutilation' on vinyl for the first time on 17th January 2011. The double album will be packaged in a gatefold sleeve and the first European pressing will be on orange-coloured vinyl. 'Wave of Mutilation' is a 23-track compilation featuring some of the Pixies most well-known songs such as 'Debaser', 'Gigantic', 'Where is My Mind?' and the title track. It also includes several B-sides and album tracks.
The Pixies were first formed in 1986 and went on to have a successful career that saw them release five albums. Their blend of punk rock and indie music has been acknowledged for its influence on modern alternative rock and a number of other bands have cited them as an inspiration, most notably Nirvana. The Pixies split in 1993 following a famous falling-out between frontman Black Francis and bass player Kim Deal.
In 2004, the Pixies reformed for a reunion tour that included a four-night run at Brixton Academy and appearances at both T In The Park and V Festivals. In the same year, they released 'Wave of Mutilation'. Although the band have so far decided against recording any new material since their reformation, they have continued to tour and play festivals. Last year, on the 20th anniversary of the release of their classic album 'Doolittle', they celebrated by doing a tour in which they played the album in its entirety each night.
