US Teenager Rebecca Black Finds Infamy With Viral Video 'Friday'

Rebecca Black, the singer of viral breakthrough track ‘Friday’, has somehow managed to top megastars like Katy Perry, Rihanna and Justin Bieber in the iTunes charts.
The 13-year old teenager released the overwhelmingly badly written song on March 14th, but although the track probably didn’t even deserve a release it has managed to soar up the iTunes chart in just three days, hitting the 69th spot.
It’s not clear why so many people want to listen to this song; unless they want some cheap laughs at a cheaply made song, or whether they have simply forgotten what days come after Friday, but the YouTube version of the song has reached a massive 13,000,000 views since its upload on March 11th.
Critics have been particularly harsh when reviewing the young girl’s track, with some writing that it was ‘hilariously dreadful’, and another describing it as a ‘YouTube laughing stock’. So it’ll be interesting to find out how the big names react to being beaten by what Jim Edwards has described as ‘Possibly the worst song ever’.
One of the most startling things about this record, though, is that when you hear the lyrics, you cringe slightly but then realise it is sung by a 13-year old. But no, the lyrics were actually written by TWO professional producers and songwriters. I’m not entirely sure whether they are devastatingly poor at their jobs, or musical viral geniuses – but one thing’s for sure, the internet ‘trolls’ aren’t going to let go of this one for a while.
