Warm Brains - Let Down (Single Review)

Warm Brains is the new solo project by London based DIY Producer Rory Attwell, who is best know for being a member of Test Icicles and other bands and is now highly sought after as a producer. The 18th July sees the release of his latest offering, a double-A side single ‘Let Down’/ ‘Stone to Sand to Glass’.

ImageThe Lead single, ‘Let Down’ has a heavy percussion and fast guitars and features samples from the 90’s alternative rock bands such as Blur and Dinosaur Jr. and Pavement which are brilliantly fused together to create an immediate punchy and catchy track that has a 90’s alt-rock feel. The vocals are quintessentially English that is reminiscent of Babyshambles and Libertines front man Pete Doherty. The vocals also feature the vocal talents of Paradise lead singer Florence Van Camerijk, whose appearance on the track contrast brilliantly with Attwell’s dour tones and give a more upbeat and frivolous vibe.

The second song, ‘Stone to Sand to Glass’, is a more stripped back and mellow offering with slightly haunting melancholic vocals making the whole track much more emotive than the upbeat tempo of the previous tune. This adds weight to the diversity of Attwell’s skills and leaves the listener keen to hear what else will be on offer when the album ‘Old Volcanoes’ is released in August.
