Rufus Wainwright Releases New Collaboration With His Father – Watch Video Now

Wednesday, 20 July 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright has released a new video featuring a collaboration with his father Loudon Wainwright III. The song, which can be viewed below, is a cover of ‘Down Where the Drunkards Roll’ by former Fairport Convention guitarist Richard Thompson. It was taken from Thompson’s second solo album ‘I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight’, which was released in 1974 as a collaborative effort with his then wife Linda Thompson. Richard and Linda Thompson are the parents of folk singer Teddy Thompson, who has also previously collaborated with Rufus Wainwright.

Rufus Wainwright is currently midway through a week-long residence at London’s Royal Opera House. The shows include performances with his sister Martha Wainwright and their father Loudon Wainwright III. He will also be performing live versions of his ‘Rufus Does Judy’ album and his opera ‘Prima Donna’. He is the first solo artist to take up residency at the Opera House.

Earlier this week, Rufus Wainwright released a 19-CD boxset entitled ‘House of Rufus’, which includes all of his work to date as well as a selection of bonus material. Last year, Rufus released ‘All Days are Nights: Songs for Lulu’, his sixth album and the follow-up to 2007’s ‘Release the Stars’, which reached Number Two in the UK Albums Chart. See below to watch videos for his previous singles ‘Going to a Town’ and ‘California’.
