The Libertines Set To Reunite for 2011 UK Tour & Festivals

Carl Barat and Pete Doherty are reported this morning to have reformed iconic indie rock act The Libertines for a tour across the UK later this year.

The band are also reported to be planning on an extensive tour of mainland Europe in early 2012 and concluding with a series of festival slots next summer. It has also been suggested that a new Libertines album could be in the pipeline too.

A music industry insider told The Sunday Mirror: "Pete and Carl really enjoyed reforming the band last year for the Reading and Leeds festivals. Now Pete’s out of prison and trying to stay clean, getting the band back together is his main priority.

"Fortunately Carl is open to the idea of touring and getting back to what they were famous for. So long as Pete is relatively on the straight and narrow, the world is their oyster."

ImageBarat previously spoke to BBC 6Music about a Libertines reunion, though in a much less positive manner.

"I don't want to spend the next year with everyone just asking about The Libertines. It's just draining... if internally things aren't in the same place as they were then, I can't do anything about that," Barat said.

Speaking with NME earlier this year, after the launch of the film 'There Are No Innocent Bystanders', Barat said: "I'm not going to talk about it ever again. I don't want to. What the fuck is the point? The film has said it all. If it made me happy like it did then, back in the day, then I'd do it (a full reunion) and it'd be great.”

He continued: “But I refuse - pointedly to make any kind of other record, recording or song written on the pain and nastiness and upset and anything negative that's happened in the past. If we do then it will be a bad record, so what the f**k's the point?"

"I'm just doing other stuff now - I'm writing another solo album, I've got a baby boy, that's my life. Right now I'm into that. I need to heal. Especially after all this. This is the end of a very long and hard road for me."

The Libertines famously reunited last summer, with much fanfare and critical acclaim, to headline the Leeds and Reading Festivals, cashing in a reported £1.5 Million for the two shows.

Last week, Carl Barat stoked the rumour mill fire by posting a picture of himself with his former bandmate Pete Doherty on twitter. "Just spent the day with me ol. Tickety bibble x", wrote Barat last weekend.

The two singers have a controversial past, with Barat once stopping Doherty touring with The Libertines because of his drug abuse, only to have his house burgled by Doherty while on duty with the rest of the band. It was also been reported that during recording sessions in 2004, the two needed bodyguards to stop each other from attacking one another. The band split in 2004 after two studio albums and seven years playing music together.

Earlier this year Carl Barat also said there would be no Libertines shows in 2011, although with this story moving so fast fans could get their wish to see the band live again this Autumn.
