Hard-Fi took their mini-tour to Bristol on Sunday and wowed the West Country crowd with an exuberant performance which showcased their terrific song-writing talents.
Fans were treated to an eclectic mix of new songs from the recent album ‘Killer Sounds’ and some classics from earlier albums ‘Stars of CCTV’ and ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’.
Warming up the night were Plymouth outfit, The Patrick James Pearson Band. Their indie-styled pop was a real crowd warmer and the band looked well suited to the occasion.
Next in line were Newport three-piece Dirty Goods. These were the ideal support for Hard-Fi, with tracks like ‘Dancing’ and especially ‘Honest’ getting extra “woos” from the audience. Their performance was confident and upbeat, with lead singer Antony Smith’s voice sounding surprisingly soulful.
Then up stepped the Staines indie foursome - delighting the crowd from start to finish.
Singer Richard Archer appeared to be allured by playing on stage again, with his mannerisms being presented in an ‘up-for-it’ type fashion.
Archer acknowledged the detail that it had been four years since the band had released new material and kept them known. However, they showed they were still just as vibrant, with the ear-splitting summer anthem ‘Good for Nothing’ sounding particularly emphatic.
Older tracks such as ‘Suburban Knights’, ‘Cash Machine’, ‘Stars of CCTV’, ‘Gotta Reason’ and ‘Hard to Beat’ were a picturesque statement to the crowd, as if to say “Remember all of these songs? Yeah, we wrote them”.
And it was their final encore track ‘Living for the Weekend’ that epitomized their performance. The song was performed with such finesse that one may wonder on why they are not appreciated as one of the UK’s biggest bands like Kasabian or the Arctic Monkeys.
Overall, a supreme performance to an appreciative Bristol crowd. If you question the band’s commitment to music, now would be a time to think back to some memorable tunes that have been shared to us, while they are now back putting on a smashing set.
