ImageThe new Muse single 'Supermassive Black Hole' was premiered today on XFm, and has already found its way on to the Internet.

Eager fans are downloading the new single, which is set to get its first play on more mainstream stations tomorrow. The single isn't officially released until June 19th.

Early reports of the new track are very encouraging, comparing the directional change to that of Stereophonics' Dakota which helped the Welsh band get their first Number 1 single back in 2005.

Muse fans feel Matt Bellamy and his band could also have their first Number 1 single on their hands, with a lively electro sound which would appeal to a wider audience.

One fan summed up he mood of 'Supermassive Black Hole' by saying, "This song is like crack. The more I listen to it, the more I want hear it again. It's creepy disco funk. And It's fookin' Muse doing creepy disco funk."

The bands follow-up to 2003's 'Absolution', 'Black Hole and Revelations', will be released on July 3rd.

Speaking about the album, and its new direction for the band, singer Matt Bellamy said "I was going out dancing in clubs around New York. That helped create tracks like 'Supermassive Black Hole'. Franz (Ferdinand) have done it very well, with that dance type beat going on mixed with alternative guitar and I've always wanted to find that."

32. Great. But nothing like the album.
Written by Darkshines on Friday, 12 May 2006
Anyone who has paid the faintest bit of attention to what Muse and some of the preview journalists have said about the new album in the last few months will know that A) This song sounds like how it was described and that the rest of the album is COMPLETELY diverse, random, epic and insane. Love the song, it is great for what it is supposed to be. A Danceable song.
31. Im still undecided
Written by Shaun on Friday, 12 May 2006
In my opinion, muse aint goin for a wider audience, or a mainstream single. there jus doin what they want 2 do, an they dont need angst and anger all the time, every1 needs a pick up record, an this certainly worked for me! im luvin it!
30. So funky!
Written by JeZ on Friday, 12 May 2006
Sure this song is different from the rest, but thats not a bad thing! They'll have plenty of dark, space, prog rock on the new album, but this one is far more dancey, and I love it...now, although at first, I was shocked!
They've justed experimented with a whole new genre of music, dance!, and produced a gem that stands out from most of the artists that have confined themselves to that genre, eg, Goldfrapp.
Don't hate it for not being rocky enough, love it for being funky, and then re-assure yourselves they'll stick to bettering themselves for the rest of the album :-)
29. Good

U guys obviouslt dont see the pathways that great alt rock bands take, for example radiohead went heaps electro and weird with albums like Kid A, its all good its music that sounds different not really mainstream in this case but its music that trys to move ou tof the rock genre and into its own genre
28. I quite like this
Written by Him on Friday, 12 May 2006
When I first heard it on the radio I wasn't quite sure about it but after listening to it a few times I just can't get it out of my head.

It is definately a radio song and was made to get them a chart topping single. The length, the style, the lyrics are all suited for a wider audience.

For those of you panicing about the album, don't. I've heard some tracks from it live and they are nothing like SBH.
27. yeah !!!
Written by Guest on Thursday, 11 May 2006
I was surprised the first time I listened to the single.
But it's a good surprise. The song might sound mainstream for some people, but it is brilliant in its genre.
Previous Muse albums were lyric prog rock style and are classics to me.
I don't doubt the new album will also be a classic.
26. Muse on this...........
Written by Guest on Thursday, 11 May 2006
everyone could sense this change, I was anxious for ages about thier new material. Im not too disheartened. SMBH has that muse cleverness, its instantly catchy, hard to not like and better than 'thoughts of a dyeing Athiest' like most fans I fear muse becoming mainstream and thought they had found their sound with songs like 'Newborn', 'Plug in baby', 'Dark Shines' (best muse song ever-anyone agree?)Stockholm syndrome and Hysteria it was all so perfect! they were totally original, on another level to anyone else so why stoop to electro? Its refreshing, but agree, it is a wrong direction when they were on to such a good thing in Origin of Symmetry, (and most of Absolution) but its still muse you've got to remain loyal, wait for rest of the album it won't all sound like this........

looks like muse got what they wanted .. hate it or love it, people are talking about their single.

as for fears of matt selling himself to become mainstream? please! any muse fan should know by now that matt does what he wants, not what the record company wants
24. Map of Your Head...
Written by Gavin on Thursday, 11 May 2006
If you gave a child a toy drum, turned the hoover on, and put on Britney Spears, this is what you would get... What happened to the apocalyptic, epic angst of "Absolution", the mysterious power of "Origin", and the emotive grandeur of "Showbiz"? Muse may have needed a new direction, but they definitely took a wrong turn.
23. it's must to be a joke!
Written by Maqui! on Thursday, 11 May 2006
I'm sorry, i'm really a hug fanatic of MUSE, they was my inspiration at all, and i think this it's a joke. the song it's ok, but smells like a chart, radio, and business.
I can't judge without listen all the album, but honnestly, i'm affraid..., 'cause they'll lost their credibility if all the album has that track like "supermassive...". How many times i deffended you, that you're not copy to "radiohead"!!!... are you copy now to "scissor sisters"? I can't believe it!

Supermassive Black Hole is pretty non descript as far as pop songs go and pretty crap as far as muse songs go. Fair enough theyve taken a new direction but they could have at least done it well.
21. mainstream madness
Written by Guest on Thursday, 11 May 2006
I love Muse, love them.
But... they aren't mainstream. That is one of the things I do love about them - how different they are... or were.
If they're trying to appeal to a wider audience then maybe they'll succeed. But they haven't appealed to me with this one :'[
20. please, don't break my ideals...
Written by whua-hua-hua on Thursday, 11 May 2006
they must stop that!
I adore what these guys had done till now, but i always had a doubt that something is wrong there... someteimes it just felt like they were some lucky talented fools managing to put everything in the right place somehow. i was unconsciously fearing for this moment to come...
this song has low expression and is absolutely a dead electropop. one place (that computer voice) reminds me something awful from the popsy-pop world. and it makes me sad...
19. Little dissapointed
Written by Guest on Thursday, 11 May 2006
I think its a grower but its a step down from songs like 'Sing for Absolution' and 'Stockholm syndrome' which blew my mind the first time I heard them. The rest of the album better not be anything like this. Everytime I listen to im waiting for it to kick in.

Ill wait for the album before I make my mind up though.
18. ouch
Written by Guest on Thursday, 11 May 2006
it actually physically hurts by now. At first I thought it was funny..but not anymore. I'm all for Muse trying new stuff and expand their musical world..and I would have supported anything .. but this is not new...really..this stuff has been done before..just not by them. I just hope the rest of the album will be more original..
17. Keep up the good work boys
Written by Keva from Tainter on Thursday, 11 May 2006
Constantly evolving, constantly entertaining, constantly surprising... you just have to love this band! Ignore the fuss - SMBH is a shockingly great first single and the sign of another brilliant album to come.
16. muse
Written by Guest fan Had on Wednesday, 10 May 2006
It is one of those songs that grows on you, give it another chance people! It's completely refreshing to hear a new sound from the guys, I think fans should embrace it! Absolutely love it, can't wait for more.
15. Mainstream
Written by Guest on Wednesday, 10 May 2006
At first listing to it I didnt belive that it was muse. But I think that hopefully they will surprise us with a move to a different sound for a while. I love their old stuff, and this new song does sound totally different.

I just hope that the band are doing this through their own will and not trying to go mainstream and sell their music rather than just making music because they like to.

Perfect example: GreenDay, once a band I loved and now they are complete and utter sellouts. Selling their album, then holding out till christmas to sell their album/dvdI still like their old stuff and billie joe is still a good performer but I lost all respect and would not recommend to go to see them more than once live (they never change their set anymore, they just care too much about making more money, even though their minted).

Anyway, end of rant.

Well, i think this new "Supermassive Black Hole" is an excellent track for franz ferdinand fans, and it could be a great great hit on the eMpTyV music charts, but.....this is not Muse. Any way you want to listen it, this isn?t Muse. I like the song, i don?t like Franz Ferdinand, i don?t like MTV and i like Muse. What do i?m trying to say?, I like this song (it?s very very original and funny) but i hope the rest of the album isn?t like this, one disco song is enough to make me smile, two would be offensive.
13. Fantastic
Written by Pete on Wednesday, 10 May 2006
Some fans seem disappointed, but i've been a fan for 6 years and I love that they're trying something completely different.
They've pulled it off big time.
12. Hang on...
Written by Guest on Wednesday, 10 May 2006
I think the song sounds great, yeah its different, but Muse have done lots of different styles of music, jazz, slow, acoustic, really loud, gothic, Supermassive Black hole is just another genre to their wide collection. Not all the songs on the album will be the same. I mean compare Yes Please with Recess, they are totally different!!!
11. song

i love muse but this song is not them at all i really dont like it!!!!lets hope they realise their other albums rock!

I dunno. I really love their music, and I'm keen to give this a go, but it sounds a little too 80s for me. Their previous songs really rock and are quite dark. Lots of thought went into them. It seems this repeats alot of the same lyrics and isn't as well thought out as some of their older songs. The hope they haven't gone for more of a main-stream target, instead of making the music they truly enjoy. I also notice the track is a radio friendly length, which they have done this in the past, a lot of their music, and the better of their songs, have been quite long tracks. I understand this is just one track and may not indicate what the rest of the album will be like, but they chose to release it as a teaser of what is to come, I don't really think it stacks up to their normal, amazing sound. I'll sit on it for a while, listen to it while I'm at work - see if it grows on me and I see what they are trying to achieve. I hope I come to appreciate it as much as the other songs. I like their dark lyrics, this sounds too lively. Love will do that to you Matt :)
8. grrrrrr

There's no denying this is an excellent, addictive, wonderful addition to the Muse catalog.
That being said, it is a huge disappointment for the first new song since Absolution and I hope that they 'Black Holes and Revelations' has the same crazed space rock that makes Muse the best band in the world.
7. Don't Worry!
Written by Rob on Wednesday, 10 May 2006
I'm not entirely convinced by this song, but to honest I've never liked the singles the band have released anywhere near as much as I love what's on the rest of the albums, I have no doubt it'll be the same here. This is most definately a single aimed at mainstream consumption.
6. Maybe
Written by www.myspace.com/lukehmusic on Wednesday, 10 May 2006
I also think that muse have lost something but also gained something. The song is catchy and no where near as dark ar some of their earlier stuff, however i prefer the older muse, but i do realy like the song and i will still be buying the new album and i wish them all the best.
5. disagree

personally i think this song is anything but muse, and i feel like this album is going to disappoint me as fan.
I am scared that this album will cause me to loose intrest!

this is the sexiest muse song ever!

the new album will be fantastic :)

I personaly think muse have lost something of their origonality in this new song. Its great to see them progress, i like where they are going just i dont think its quite there and im dissapointed i exspected more. It feels half finished, and i have heard it before form other bands. Hope the album is better
