Bloc Party 'Split' a Publicity Stunt?

News has emerged today that Bloc Party’s alleged split from vocalist Keke Okereke could possibly have been a publicity stunt which may have been unintentionally sensationalised by the NME Magazine.

Last week singer Kele spoke to the well-known music magazine and website, saying that he’d seen the rest of the band entering a recording studio without him, and that he ‘hoped he hadn’t been fired’. Following that story, it surfaced that the band had been auditioning new singers for the band – seemingly confirming Kele’s removal from Bloc Party.

But now, there have been reports that Bloc Party are “backtracking” on their announcement that they’re searching for a new vocalist, and their managers have been denying advances in the story – prompting fans to hound the NME, accusing them of sensationalising or possibly even making up the story.

While fans have been quick to attack the NME about the story, they do hold conversations embedded on the story in which you can hear both the singer talking about seeing his bandmates ready to rehearse without him, as well as Russell Lissack confirming that Bloc Party were looking for a new singer.

It is certainly a clouded and convoluted situation, with multiple possible outcomes – the story could be 100% true, it could be false, or the band could be working on a new side project which would involve a new vocalist. What do you think is going on with Bloc Party? And do you think the NME is guilty of any fabrication with this story? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
