Rise To Remain - Power Through Fear (Single Review)

Rise To Remain have a lot on their plate right now. They’re being given praise and opportunities left, right and center and rightly so – the metalcore quintet are a rising power in British music and serve as a great example of what the English can give to our country’s musical heritage.

ImageKeeping heritage in mind, the flipside of Rise To Remain’s journey towards success arguably stands in the long shadow of frontman Austin Dickinson’s old man, Iron Maiden legend Bruce. Some were quick to say that Rise To Remain have gotten where they are on the back of Austin Dickinson being a famous child, but with the single Power Through Fear, the Londoners once again prove that they don’t need anybody to propel them toward their destiny.

With songs as good as Power Through Fear, it is no wonder that the London metallers have earned tour slots with the likes of British legends Funeral For A Friend and are set to play such metal heavyweights as In Flames and Trivium.

Onto the song itself, Power Through Fear begins with a driving, somber opening subsuming musical hints of American metalcore mob Escape The Fate and hurtles toward compelling vocals delivered by a convincing Dickinson. Throughout Power Through Fear, Rise To Remain are consistent in their musicality but include just enough variation to remain entertaining. It is the vocals however, both lead and backing, that are key to the song’s appeal.

Lyrically, Rise To Remain are equally impressive. As fans catch lyrics such as “I am the devil turning glass into sand/ I am the shadow on the wall/ I am the subtlety of sleepless night/ For this demon is man”, you can be certain that they will be rushing to online lyrics sites to decipher just what is helping to send Rise to Remain surely and steadily into the stratosphere.

For people just being turned onto Rise To Remain’s music, Power Through Fear is a brilliant example of a band doing what they do brilliantly. For fans of Dickinson and co. however, Power Through Fear is an assurance from Rise To Remain that the future is bright and, more importantly, it is their for the taking.
