Black Country Communion - Black Country Communion Live Over Europe (DVD Review)

Anglo-American rock supergroup Black Country Communion have experienced an outstanding two years together. Featuring the cream of classic rock music's talents, the band comprise of vocalist and bassist Glenn Hughes, of Deep Purple, Trapeze and Black Sabbath fame, leading blues-rock guitarist and singer Joe Bonamassa, son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, Jason Bonham, and Dream Theater's keyboardist Derek Sherinian. Clear to see why the band have been dubbed as the living embodiment of the Classic Rock music genre.

ImageAfter two hugely successful studio albums, released over two consecutive years, Black Country Communion now bring their thunderous cavalcade to the screen with the release of their first ever live DVD 'Black Country Communion Live Over Europe'.

Capturing Black Country Communion's Summer performances in Hamburg, Munich and Berlin, the DVD is a fantastic opportunity to see, if you've yet to experience their live show, the no nonsense, balls-to-the-wall delivery of the best classic rock music since it's golden era of the 1970s.

Echoing the band's close link to the UK's Midlands (birthplace of both Glenn Hughes and Jason Bonham), also known as The Black Country, the DVD begins with homage to the industrial Black Country that has birthed rock legends such as Black Sabbath, Diamond Head and Judas Priest. Steam billows, hammers fall, grinding metal clangs as the name of each member of BCC is unveiled and we're thrown into the appropriate first performance, 'The Black Country'.

Throughout the DVD, the stylish Glenn Hughes stalks the stage delivering his stunning range in vocals on 18 selected tracks from both their eponymous debut album and follow-up '2'. For a smallish chap, Hughes' stage presence is immense as he grooves across the stage occasionally giving the vocal duties to sublime guitarist Joe Bonamassa.

Filmed using 14 HD cameras and 5.1 Surround Sound we get to see and hear Joe Bonamassa's stunning instrumental passages in all their glory as the guitarist leads us through songs of such as 'Song Of Yesterday' and the epic-sounding 'Ballad Of John Henry'. Both Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian are both captured in their prime as the ghost of Led Zeppelin's beatsmith John Bonham echos through his son's thundering drum patterns.

The double live DVD also scatters short interviews with Glenn, Joe, Derek and Jason in-between the performances, allowing you that all important breather in-between songs. To sum-up, 'Black Country Communion Live Over Europe' is a superb live package for any rock fan. Through stunning camera work and crystal-clear sound, fans can get up-close-and-personal to the four-piece at the peak of their 2011 world tour.

In addition, the DVD package contains 20-minutes of exclusive behind the scenes footage of Black Country Communion as well as a 28-page collector’s booklet and photo collection.
