Gigantour with Megadeth, Motorhead, Volbeat & Lacuna Coil Announced

January 2012 will see the return of Gigantour, the massive and highly-anticipated metal tour founded by metal gods Megadeth, this time with the likes of giants Motörhead, Lacuna Coil and Volbeat alongside Dave Mustaine’s Megadeth.

Founded in 2005, Gigantour has been a staple part of North America’s live metal scene since Mustaine and co. introduced it just over five years ago. With the first edition including acts like Anthrax, Lamb of God, Dream Theater, Fear Factory and many more, this year’s version has a lot of work to do to keep up to the expected standard of a Gigantour show.

Kicking off on January 26th next year, the tour will travel to New York, Quebec City, Chicago, Edmunton and San Jose as well as dozens of other locations before wrapping up on February 28th in Denver, hitting 24 stops along the way.

Motörhead’s Lemmy is excited at the prospect of playing on the tour, and said: “We've done festivals in Europe with Lacuna Coil and they're workaholics as well! Volbeat are great too; the whole bill is pretty diverse and I advise everyone who likes being deaf, and/or can lip-read already, to come out and see what the stuff that doesn't get any MTV Video Awards sounds like! Gigantour is just that!”

The tour neatly coincides with Megadeth’s thirteenth studio album release, ‘TH1RT3EN’, which came out yesterday (1st) – but the unlucky number apparently brought some mischief to the production of the album.

“This is our 13th studio record, and we've already had a bunch of weird things happen,” Mustaine told Terrorizer Magazine earlier in the year. “Car problems, stuff disappearing, a guy who worked for me that was the most white-laced guy you could imagine falling out on drugs and disappearing...but this one's got me excited!”
