Sting Launches Interactive New App

Innovation and music go hand in hand. They work so well, Sting has decided to replicate and modernise a technological feat he achieved back in 1995.

Back in the days of CD-ROM introduction, Sting released an interactive CD that allowed a personal insight into the music that he made. Using a Windows 95 operating system, aficionados could gain a greater perspective on their favourite star and watch his performances – although very few had the technology to do so.

Now, 16 years later, Sting aged 60, has another feat that is being dubbed an ‘appumentary’, exclusively for Ipads – called Sting 25

If you haven’t guessed and broke down the word ‘appumentary’, I’m sure the Ipads gave it away. However, for those of you still in the dark, let me translate in Layman’s terms for you!

The ‘appumentary’ is a futuristic way that enables fans to watch and listen to his greatest gigs, concerts, collaborations and interviews, as well as receiving up-to-date information about his latest news and tours. Using Google maps, it will pin point old and new tours, showing the vintage tours, venues and highlighting where the upcoming ones will be.

The layers of content will be extensive, with a chronological timeline of all of Sting’s albums; solo and group work. Working your way through the timeline will bring you various chapters that will show meticulous detail to important aspects of songs and events, such as Live Aid, The Amnesty International Conspiracy of Hope and Human Rights, the work of the Rainforest Foundation and many film scores. As well as photos and memorabilia spanning across his entire career.

These concepts are more than fascinating, and if it catches on, expect individual bands to start launching personalised apps that bring exclusive coverage and live-as-it-happens information to all their fans.

Escaping Layman’s terms, (technophobes look away now) Sting’s new app is then applicable to all Apple’s new TVs (using WiFi to connect the Ipad to your Apple TV). This allows the user to watch Sting’s greatest ever performances in HD quality on their TV using this ‘appumentary’.

Updates will perpetually adapt and bring more to the Ipad fan, and a recent addition to the app allows fans to watch Robert Downey Jr sing the Police song ‘Driven to Tears’ at Stings 60th birthday celebrations, amongst performances from Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder and many more.

The Sting 25 ‘appumentary’ is free of charge and available to download from the ITunes app store right now!
