Manchester-based soul singer Daley has released his first-ever music video for his song ‘Smoking Gun’, the lead track from his new mixtape ‘Those Who Wait’. The mixtape, which has already been downloaded over 20,000 times, is available from Daley’s website. Watch the new video for ‘Smoking Gun’ below.
Daley is probably known best for his collaboration with Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz on their 2010 single ‘Doncamatic’. He has also featured on Wretch 32’s recent album ‘Black and White’ and collaborated with Estelle and rapper/producer David Banner on their rendition of Janis Joplin’s ‘Mercedes Benz’ earlier this year. He is currently working on his debut album with producers Andre Harris, Bernard Butler and Shea Taylor.
Speaking about his mixtape ‘Those Who Wait’, Daley said: “I had people talking and it felt great, but I still felt I had not made a statement about who I am as an artist, so I recorded my mixtape and gave it away on Twitter and Facebook. If you’re expecting a straight-up soul singer, it won’t necessarily be that.”
Going on to talk about soul music, he added: “We’ve had great female artists like Amy Winehouse, Adele and Jessie J, but the men have been slacking. There hasn’t been a great male soul artist for ages. I want to make it up there.”
Daley will be performing at The Garage in London this Friday (2nd December) as part of Last.fm’s monthly Live Fridays event.
