Velvet Revolver Eye Potential New Singer, According To Matt Sorum

American hard rock supergroup Velvet Revolver maybe coming out of hiatus soon – as drummer Matt Sorum (pictured) revealed that the band are currently auditioning potential new frontman Jimmy Gnecco, who fronts New Jersey rockers Ours.

The band have been on an extended break since their previous frontman and vocalist Scott Weiland left the group in 2008, with Slash and co. searching for a new star to take over vocal duties ever since. Almost four years on, and the it looks like a new singer may have been found – meaning fans will finally be that little bit closer to new Velvet Revolver material and tours.

“Yeah, they’re at home trying out a guy right now,” Sorum explained to Australian news outlet The Vine. “They’re sitting in a room looking at a singer named Jimmy Gnecco [from Ours]. So we’ll see how that goes, and then we’ve got a couple of other ideas.”

He continued to comment on the band’s future, talking about bandmate Slash’s solo career: “It looks like Slash is going to make another album, but I’m not sure about his touring and stuff yet. So we’ll see how that goes. But we’re all open to it and interested in trying to do something together.”

Finally, Sorum confessed that his latest stint with rock icons Guns N Roses helped point him in the right direction musically.

“When I left Guns N’ Roses, I thought I was starting to lose my soul. Why did I get into this business in the first place? Because I love music, and I want to make some music. I don’t want to sit around and get caught up in a bunch of drama. If I’m going to feel uncomfortable and spiritually not well, what’s the point? Its like, ‘Let’s make some music, man.’”
