Watch the New Video from Mark Stewart vs. Primal Scream ‘Autonomia’

Friday, 27 January 2012 Written by Rob Sleigh

Post-punk legend Mark Stewart has released the official video for his new single ‘Autonomia’ featuring Primal Scream. The video is directed by former Jesus and Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart and includes appearances from both Stewart and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie. ‘Autonomia’, the latest single to be taken from Stewart’s forthcoming album ‘The Politics of Envy’, is due for release on 20th February.

‘The Politics of Envy’ also hears Mark collaborating with Massive Attack’s Daddy G, dub/reggae legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and ex-The Clash/PiL guitarist Keith Levene, among others. Speaking about the recent collaboration, Primal Scream said: “Mark is a constant inspiration and a true Thief of Fire. A poet of paranoia and a great laugh. What a guy.”

‘Autonomia’ is written about Carlo Giuliani, an autonomist protestor killed in the 2001 G8 demonstrations in Genoa. Talking about the song, Stewart said: “It was kind of like a protest song. Afterwards, I started getting on with Bobby, who was interested in politics and I asked Adrian [Sherwood, producer] about doing it. It’s important that people hear about the story, it’s the message and the atmosphere as much as anything.”

‘The Politics of Envy’ is due for release on 26th March. For more information, visit Mark Stewart’s Facebook page.
