Amy Winehouse Death Investigation Verdict Could Be Branded 'Illegal'

The investigation held by Coroner Dr Andrew Scott Reid into the death of Amy Winehouse, who was found to have died from ‘misadventure’, could be branded null and void after it was revealed that Reid had ‘illegally’ appointed his wife Assistant Deputy Coroner.

The inquest, which was held late on last year, could be officially ruled invalid – along with 30 other enquiries that Reid’s wife Suzanne Greenaway has partaken in. According to reports in The Sun, Greenaway resigned as soon it was revealed that she did not meet the standards of UK laws, set by the Law Society.

According to the requirements, Greenaway would have had to have been part of the Law Society for as a solicitor for a minimum of five years, as well as five years as a ‘qualified medical practitioner’ – but it has now surfaced that she had insufficient experience in either field.

“In November it became apparent I'd made an error in the appointment process,” confessed Dr Reid. “While I am confident that all of the inquests handled were done so correctly, I apologise if this matter causes distress.”

It’s unknown whether the news will make any difference to the verdict that Dr Reid came to, as any inquest will have to be challenged in high-court to be officially deemed illegal – but anything could happen.
