Bernard Sumner, frontman of iconic 80’s rockers New Order, has hinted that the band could be working new material later on this year.
The band are currently focussing on their up and coming UK live dates, which sees them returning to the road for the first time since 2007. But, although their mind is set on making sure that these dates will be some of the best gigs they’ve played, Sumner hinted that new tracks could be on the way later on this year.
“Not even thinking about [writing and recording] at the moment because our heads are really on playing live,” Sumner told XFM. “It really is one day at a time – or one year at a time – and this year is playing live. Let's see [about working on new material]. Hopefully there'll be some recorded music as well.”
The band are currently embroiled in a legal battle with former bassist Peter Hook, who is adamant that the group should no longer go on using the New Order name as long as he is not part of it. But, despite the differences, the band has lined-up a UK tour and will be performing in Manchester, Birmingham, Brixton, and Glasgow this April and May.
