After seeing his iconic band U2 recently crowned as having the highest-grossing tour award – their 360° raked in a massive $736million – frontman Bono is set to be crowned as the wealthiest rockstar on the planet, with his shares in Facebook earning him massive amounts of cash.
Bono reportedly owns a 1.5% stake in Facebook shares via his private equity firm Elevation Partners. After purchasing the shares in 2009, at a value of $90milliom, they’re now expected to be worth around $1billion when the site floats on the public stock exchange next month.
This means that Bono will be worth on paper approximately $1.1billion, which is over $300million richer than the nearest rockstar on the rich list – Sir Paul McCartney. According to reports, when Bono decides to sell the shares (whatever the value will be at the time), he’ll donate some of the money to one of his many charity ventures.
