Mancunian guitar genius Noel Gallagher has confessed that he would like to work with Damon Albarn - a revelation likely to shock and confused a lot of Britpop fans who will surely remember the pair’s famous feud in the 90s, which saw Gallagher express his wish for Albarn to ‘catch AIDs and die’.
Oasis had a massive rivalry with Blur, with both of the bands considered the two leading groups in Britpop. Everyone had a favourite, with Liam, Noel and Damon either heroes or villains depending on which band you supported. But, now that Noel has split from Oasis and his brother Liam, the pair made friends over a drink last year, and admitted that he’d be happy to record with the Gorillaz star.
After being asked by NME whether he’d like to work with Radiohead’s Thom York, Noel replied: “If I was gonna make a record, it would be with Damon. For a start, he's as mad as a box of frogs. Number two, he'd get loads of hip-hop dudes working on it, which itself would be f**kin' mental. And number three? It would be a better record.”
Speaking of his meeting with Albarn in a bar last October, he said: “It was quite a moment. We'd never been in the same room for maybe 10 or 15 years. And I always said to myself if I ever was, I'd go and say, 'F**king hell, alright man?' and shake his hand and let bygones be bygones and all that. It was a great relief. I'm glad I've seen him and shook his hand and apologised for all that shit... That's over and done with now.”
Aww.
