Mark Stewart Announces UK Tour Dates and ‘Autonomia’ Remixes

Sunday, 19 February 2012 Written by Rob Sleigh

Post-punk legend Mark Stewart has announced a trio of UK tour dates next month to coincide with the release of his new solo album ‘The Politics of Envy’, which is due out on 26th March. He has also released a couple of remixes of his new single ‘Autonomia’ via his http://soundcloud.com/mark-stewart-music SoundCloud page. See below for tour dates.

Mark Stewart’s new single ‘Autonomia’, which is due for release on 20th February, features a collaboration with Primal Scream and is the first to be taken from his forthcoming album. An official video for the single was directed by former Jesus and Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart and includes appearances from both Stewart and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie – watch the video below.

Autonomia’ is written about Carlo Giuliani, an autonomist protestor killed in the 2001 G8 demonstrations in Genoa. Talking about the song, Stewart said: “It was kind of like a protest song. Afterwards, I started getting on with Bobby, who was interested in politics and I asked Adrian [Sherwood, producer] about doing it. It’s important that people hear about the story, it’s the message and the atmosphere as much as anything.”

‘The Politics of Envy’ also hears Mark collaborating with Massive Attack’s Daddy G, dub/reggae legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and ex-The Clash/PiL guitarist Keith Levene, among others.
