The Monkees' Davy Jones Thought Chest Problems Were 'Heartburn'

Talia Jones, daughter of late Monkees star Davy Jones, has told how her father thought chest pains he was experiencing in the run up to his death were simply heartburn, because he’d recently been told by a doctor at a check-up that he was healthy. The star died at age 66 on February 29th after suffering a major heart attack in Florida. A witness at the time told authorities he was with Jones in Indiantown, Florida, when Jones “began to complain of not feeling well and having trouble breathing,” before suffering the heart attack. Now, his daughter has told how he dismissed chest pains as heartburn prior to the incident.

“My father just had all of these tests and everything came back great,” Talia told the National Enquiry. “He was told his heart was like a 25-year-old's. So when he continued to have pains in the chest area, he never thought it was anything but a bad case of heartburn. In fact, he needed more extensive testing to know what was going on.”

She continued on to admit that stress was probably a contributor to the singer’s heart attack, saying “Of course there was stress. What stressed him was just living the lifestyle he did - literally going from one country to the next, one state to the next. He was always trying to do so much and please everybody.”

There will reportedly be a memorial concert for the star – so keep up-to-date on Stereoboard and we’ll let you know when it’s been organised.
