Sonic Youth's Future Still In Limbo Following Thurston Moore And Kim Gordon Split

American alternative rock outfit Sonic Youth have confessed that their future is still uncertain following singer and guitarist Thurston Moore's split from wife and bandmate Kim Gordon.

The pair had been married for 27 years but announced their decision to divorce in October last year, leaving the band's future uncertain. Six months on, guitarist Lee Ranaldo has admitted that he's still not sure whether the band will continue – and would be continuing with their break indefinitely.

Speaking to Spinner, Ranaldo said: “It's up in the air. We're taking a much-needed break and leaving it at that. We're not saying anything final, but we're not discussing anything for the future either. We're just letting it be.”

He added: “Our lives and careers are so intertwined that, even if nothing is happening as far as new recordings and new performances, we'll be tied to each other. We've had an amazing 30-year run. We'll see what the future holds.”

If you're a fan of the band, all is not lost – Ranaldo is still making his own solo material, and released his latest record 'Between the Times and the Tides' in March.
