Life Has Got 'Whole Lot More Surreal', Say The Alabama Shakes

American rockers Alabama Shakes have opened up about their incredibly quick rise to fame, which has seen them bag the first ever Official UK Record Store chart #1 with their debut album 'Boys & Girls'.
The group, who formed 2009, have suddenly gone from a high-school band to an internationally-famous four-piece, who have celebrity fans and a hit album in their inventory. But, just a year or two ago, they were relatively unknown, yet frontwoman Brittany Howard claims that their life is 'no different' following their almost overnight success – though she has confessed that it's gotten rather surreal.
Speaking to The Scotsman, Howard said: “I’d like to be able to tell you that life for the Shakes is no different from what it was a little while back, that the only change is people know the words to our songs now and so can sing along. But I’m not going to pretend it’s not a whole lot more surreal.”
And, speaking of her celebrity fans, Howard told of an almost embarrassing event involving Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant.
“We still do (Led Zeppelin’s) 'How Many More Times', but we were like: ‘We can’t play his own song to him – that’s so cheesy!’ But he went home to bed before the end so we managed to fit it in.”
