'You Can't Be Afraid To Sound Stupid When Writing', Says Carrie Underwood

29 year-old country pop singer Carrie Underwood has fans that it's important to not be 'afraid' of sounding stupid when writing new music, following the release of her fourth studio album 'Blown Away'.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, Underwood opened up about the writing process she goes through when she works on new material – and her number one tip is to not be afraid of sounding silly or stupid when coming up with ideas for new songs.

“When you go in to write, you have to be willing to sound stupid,” the star told the site. “Before you have a chance to think about something, you blurt it out and it doesn't make any sense, and everybody gets a good laugh out of it. You can't be afraid to sound completely dumb when you go to write.”

She went on to talk about her career and it's beginnings, which started after she won the fourth series of American Idol, and how she's glad she's managed to learn how to handler herself when in the public eye.

“I'm glad I can present a polished version of myself when it counts. When I was on Idol I said some dumb stuff, and learned what that could do, and that stuff lives on. It seemed like every single solitary stupid thing I said was aired and featured and replayed over and over and over again.”

Carrie Underwood has a one-off show in London's Royal Albert Hall lined-up for this July. Carrie Underwood UK & Ireland Tour Dates are as follows:

Thu June 21st 2012 - Royal Albert Hall, London
