Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto has opened up about her father's sad death last year, and how it left her depressed for some time afterwards.
The eccentric post-punk star has revealed that her father's death, which was caused by rheumatoid arthritis, left her depressed, grumpy and wanting to sleep 24 hours a day and even interfered with Gossip's work with producer and songwriter Mark Ronson.
My dad died, you know? I was so depressed, Ditto told Attitude. I honestly didn't care about anything. And it took me a really long time to realise I was depressed. I had no idea. I only knew that I was really grumpy and there were days where I would just sleep for 24 hours solid and not even think about it. For some reason it didn't dawn on me that it was my dad.
She continued on to talk about her band's work with Mark Ronson, saying: It just didn't work out. It was kinda bad timing. It wasn't a brawl. I will say that I really liked working with Mark a lot. But there was so much going on.
Ditto has returned to her usual exuberant self, and Gossip are now set to release their new album 'A Joyful Noise' on May 14th. You can catch the trio performing in London in May and July if you need tickets, check the dates and details below.
