The Wanted's Jay McGuinness 'Always Thought Group Would Turn To Rock'

British and Irish boyband The Wanted may have cracked the States with their boyish charms have dance-y pop numbers, but Jay McGuiness has admitted that he had hoped the group would take on a more rock n' roll style after their formation in 2009.

The world-famous group are a chart force and are known for their boyband pop numbers such as 'All Time Low', which you can hear below, but it's rock n' roll that the group (or at least McGuiness) really wanted to get into – though they've admitted that rock is simply not selling enough nowadays.

Speaking to Digital Spy, McGuiness confessed: “We always thought we were gonna go more rocky with time, but that just hasn't happened. I mean, rock music just isn't selling a lot right now. I don't know. I guess it changes with time.”

He went on to talk about any other genres they may venture into – like Justin Bieber and his rap alter-ego Shawty Mane – and jokingly said: “We were working with Guy Chambers on an almost Robbie Williams-type song, and Tom tried a little bit on that [rap], but no. We didn't fit into it. Maybe we'll develop into it more over time. We could probably go garage, but we couldn't go hip-hop because you really need some sense of rhythm.”

If you're a fan of the group's style, make sure you catch them at one of their up and coming UK gigs. Check the dates and details below the video to get yourself tickets.
