Scottish singer Matt Cardle, winner of the 2010 series of the X-Factor (the same series that spawned One Direction), has been dropped by his record label Columbia.
The star, who has released one album since his success on the show, managed to hit #1 with his first single since the X-Factor series concluded, but has struggled since then – with his singles 'Starlight' and 'Amazing' reaching just #185 and #84 in the Singles chart respectively.
So, it's not too surprising that he's since been dropped by Columbia, who held a joint-deal for Cardle with Simon Cowell's Syco Record, but Cardle's rather happy that Columbia have decided to leave him behind.
The star posted through his Twitter page: “I have parted ways with Columbia records, we were heading in different directions, big news coming soon... So excited!”
Cardle seems to be the latest in the long line of those who've gone on to win the X-Factor, only to fail to reach proper success – he even criticised Simon Cowell for allowing runners-up to release music before him – something which may have contributed to his eventual label drop.
Still, Cardle may find a new record label and finally feel comfortably at home. Stay with Stereoboard to stay up-to-date with the star.
