KISS Launch 3ft x 2ft Monster Book Spanning 40 Year Career

"A band that is bigger than life deserves a book that's bigger than life," jokes Paul Stanley, regarding the band's latest piece of merchandise. Launching their Monster book, a picture book that stands at 3ft fall and 2ft wide and spans their 40 year career thus far, KISS unveiled the latest mammoth edition to their empire in London a day prior to their intimate Forum show in aid of Help For Heroes.

ImageWith big objects comes a big price tag. Each of the 1000 limited copies will be sold for $4,300 dollars, making it a must have for KISS collectors with money to spare. Speaking about the contents of the book itself, Paul adds, "It chronicles the last 40 years of the band and it's massive, as well it should be."

The band chose all photographs themselves, although Gene insists that the real thanks go to Tommy, who appears modest over his input to the project: "This book wouldn't have been possibly without Tommy Thayer, who worked his butt off - which is why he doesn't have a butt anymore. He spent weeks and weeks working on it, designing it with everybody and every one of those photos were handpicked by Tommy."

"Let's say this is the beginning," adds Gene. "Whenever we think we've done it all, there's always another chapter. How about this - the biggest [book] yet, more to come. Anything's possible. Size does count, your girlfriend's been lying."

Each book was hand bound due to them being too big and heavy for the machines they would have alternatively used. It's safe to say that even when it comes to book binding, Kiss don't do things by halves. The images document the band's entire masked career to date, featuring former members and current alike, and all books are signed by the current line- up.

The band's show at the HMV Forum the following day was in aid of Help For Heroes. Discussing the organisation, Paul adds, "Every country that's free depends upon those people to keep you free, so that's the biggest national treasure you have. You owe it to these people, because they've given everything to you. There's no liberty without these people; they sacrifice their lives and sacrifice their limbs. We've met with these people, think the world of them and maybe we can raise some awareness."
