Superstar singer Madonna has cancelled her planned Australian tour - a trip that would have been the singers first venture to the country for 20 years.
The news comes as Madge brought her ‘MDNA’ world tour to London, with the UK leg of the trip continuing tomorrow with a show in Birmingham’s NIA, which is in turn followed by gigs in Edinburgh and Dublin. Live Nation Australia confirmed the cancellations but has yet to make any kind of comments regarding the reasons behind them.
The tour had yet to even be announced properly, and though stadiums in major Australian cities had been booked for shows throughout January and February next year, it looks like there won’t be any Madonna shows at all - at least until later in 2013. The gigs would have been the ‘Like a Virgin’ singer’s first gigs down under since 1993, when she performed as part of her ‘Girlie Show’ world tour.
The cancellations also come after comments from Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, and Live Nation boss Arthur Fogel, who said: “Madonna really needs to go to Australia. We are long overdue for a trip Down Under and apologise for that. It will happen. We'll get to these markets where she's never been, some exciting new places, and get back to Australia after too long a time.”
