Hip-hop star Plan B has described British Prime Minister and tory big-wig David Cameron ‘still a dickhead’ following his 2006 ‘Hug-a-Hoodie’ speech and last year’s riots.
The star, real name Ben Drew, is unhappy at the PM’s change in ideas, after Cameron made examples out of those arrested during and after the London riots of 2011. He’d previously said that it was wrong to blame young people for anti-social behaviour.
“He was right [with 2006 statement],” he told The Sunday Times. “That was a genuine, heartfelt statement and if you read it, it's correct. But he never said 'hug a hoodie'; the press came up with that and he got loads of flak for it. Cameron's still a dickhead… because he can come out with a speech like that, but when the riots actually happened, he goes, 'Oh, we're going to severely punish them all.' And it's like, well, what happened to 'hug a hoodie' now?”
He went on to later talk about his new album ‘iLL Manors’ - released today - saying: “It's a mirror, a reflection of today. And of the problems that have been swept under the carpet since the riots put them on the front pages. That's why I made it so visceral, to get under people's skin. I wanted people to misunderstand it, and to start debating it again.”
