Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy And Slayer's Kerry King Join Marshall Amps 50th Anniversary Concert

The line-up for Marshall Amps 50th Anniversary event just got louder with the addition of more names to the already storming line-up. Dream Theater’s drummer and progressive metal legend Mike Portnoy joins hit songwriter and founding member of Free Andy Fraser and all-round thrash metal superstar and co-founder of Slayer Kerry King for this rock n roll spectacular at Wembley arena on Saturday 22nd September 2012.

ImageThe luminaries will unite with rock n roll’s biggest stars to celebrate the life and work of revolutionary amp pioneer Jim Marshall with an unparalleled display of rock virtuosity. They join global rock royalty from bands including Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Whitesnake, Chickenfoot, The Cult, Black Label Society, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath plus host comedian, The Pub Landlord, Al Murray.

Following the sad news of Jim Marshall’s death earlier this month the event, which was already planned to commemorate Marshall’s 50th Anniversary, will now be held in honour of the legendary man and his remarkable life. To celebrate Jim’s 50 legendary years of musical innovation, Marshall is taking over Wembley arena for a full on rock n roll riot.

Kerry King commented: “If I stand in front of my rig, if my nuts ain't shaking then I ain't satisfied... and the only stuff that can do that is my Marshalls! Marshall has helped shape my career in so many ways. The company even produced my very own fearsome, ass kicking signature amp “The Beast”. To me Jim Marshall was the ultimate rock star because he and his team made us all sound better. It’s an incredible honour to have my signature on an amp right next to him and an incredible honour to play at this event. Let’s make it thunder!”

The line-up for the event reads like a who’s who from the Rock and Metal Hall of Fame. The Marshall team is bringing together the biggest rock gods on the planet all of whom are keen to pay their respects to the legend that was Jim Marshall.

Broadcaster and comedian Al Murray will compère the event alongside Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain and they will be joined by the world’s most legendary guitarists, acclaimed musicians and Marshall enthusiasts. Mike Portnoy, Andy Fraser and Kerry King now join the acts previously announced for the event including multiple Grammy nominee and Chickenfoot super-group founder Joe Satriani, Ozzy Osbourne collaborator and founder of Black Label Society Zakk Wylde, one of rock's premiere virtuoso guitarists Yngwie Malmsteen, technical wizard and Guitar Magazine’s "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time" Paul Gilbert, Whitesnake’s Doug Aldrich and Brian Tichy, The Cult’s Billy Duffy, Slipknot/Stone Sour front man Corey Taylor, Judas Priest frontman Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens and Trapeze, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath vocalist and bassist Glenn Hughes.

There are also further big names to be announced so check back to Stereoboard for updates.
