Metallica To Begin Work On New Studio Album In September

Thrash legends Metallica have revealed they are planning to return to the studio in September - beginning work on the follow-up to their 2008 album 'Death Magnetic'.

Metallica founder Lars Ulrich revealed the news during a press conference on Tuesday 24th July, when the drummer also confirmed that the band have plenty of material ready to record.

“Every time James Hetfield picks up a guitar, there are some brilliant riffs that come out of it, and I try to make sure that they are all recorded and try to do my best to keep up with them and try to put some drums in behind them.

“So there are, obviously, tons of ideas sitting around waiting to be had at in terms of turning ideas of James’ into songs. Pretty much when we’re done with the [3D] movie [project] and with Outside Lands, which should all be wrapped up by early September, we’re gonna basically just concentrate on new music and try to get another Metallica record [done].”

Following much speculation Metallica announced that they’ll be releasing a 3D biopic, and that its likely to see a release next year. Metallica confirmed the news earlier this year through a statement on their official website.

“Happy New Year!!! As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with ‘Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works.

“We’re here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don’t have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them."

The film will be directed by 'Predators' director Nimród Antal and production begins later this year.
