Conor Maynard - Contrast (Album Review)

19-year-old Connor Maynard only released his debut single 'Can't Say No' back in March and now two singles later, Conor Maynard released his debut album 'Contrast'.

ImageOften compared to American teen Justin Bieber, Conor Maynard confirms to everyone with this album that he is completely the opposite to Bieber. Not a lot of artists can say that they get to collaborate with the likes of Rita Ora, Ne-Yo and Pharrell Williams on their debut album.

'Animal' is the album's opening track and straight away sets the tone for the rest of the album. 'Turn Around', a track that has been confirmed as his next single, sees Conor team up with RnB star Ne-Yo and for me this is probably the strongest track on the album and will no doubt be a huge chart success. 'Can't Say No' and 'Vegas Girls' are both outstanding tracks, both blending in well with the rest of the album.

Rita Ora features on 'Better Than You', yet another stand-out track. Both Rita and Conor's uniqueness in their voices complement each other well.

It’s hard to pick a favourite song from the album as each song is as equally as good as the last. Usual an artist’s album may have a few weaker songs towards the end of the CD; however it is safe to say that for his first album – Conor has done amazingly well.

The album is full of energy from start to finish. Possibly one of the strongest debut albums that has been released in the past twelve months. Considering Conor is only 19, this album shows a lot of vocal maturity that makes him sound a lot older than he actually is. One thing is for sure, Conor Maynard is going to be around for a long time.

The tracklisting for 'Contrast' is as follows:

Animal // Turn Around Feat Ne-Yo // Vegas Girl // Can't Say No // Lift Off Feat. Pharrell // Mary Go Round // Take Off // Better Than You Feat. Rita Ora // Another One // Pictures // Glass Girl // Just In Case // Headphones (iTunes Exclusive) // Drowning (iTunes Exclusive)
