'Dubstep Is New Heavy Metal,' Says Korn's Jonathan Davis

Jonathan Davis, frontman of nu-metal-turned-dubstep outfit Korn, has claimed that ‘dubstep is the new electronic heavy metal’ following the release of ‘The Path of Totality’ late on last year.
Korn, a band famous across the world in the late 90s and 00s for their down-tuned, heavy-as-hell nu-metal sound, surprised their fans in 2011 with their new album and it’s lead single ‘Get Up!’, which was produced alongside brostep/electro superstar Skrillex. Soon it became evident that the change in style was permanent, and now Davis has started his own electronic side project called J Devil - and thinks that dubstep is the heavy metal of today.
“North American dubstep is the new electronic heavy metal,” Davis told Spinner. It's the-filthier-the-better in that world, and with heavy metal, it's the heavier the better, so it's kind of the same thing.”
He went on to talk about his new project J Devil and how he enjoyed interacting with the audience - albeit on a rather rude level.
“I make people drop their jaws because I'm just up there telling them to go fuck themselves. No one's ever done that at an EDM show and crowds are loving it. It's not like I'm offending anyone, people are like 'Yeah, fuck you too!'”
What do you think of the comments - is dubstep really the new heavy metal? Or has Davis simply jumped on the snowballing dubstep bandwagon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
