Alt-J Named Bookies Favourite for 2012 Mercury Music Prize

Indie-pop quartet Alt-J have been announced by Paddy Power as the favourites for the 2012 Mercury Prize, closely followed by Richard Hawley, Florence and the Machine, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, and Django Django.
The Cambridge-based outfit have seen their popularity explode in recent times and are odds on favourite at 6/4 to pick up the main prize of £20,000 for their highly-lauded debut album ‘An Awesome Wave’.
‘Standing at the Sky’s Edge’, ‘Crown and Treaty’, ‘Ceremonials’, and ‘Django Django’, by Richard Hawley, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, Florence and the Machine, and Django Django respectively, all sit nicely at 10/1
Completing the top 10 is Hot Chip’s ‘In Our Heads’, Emeli Sande’s ‘Our Version of Events’, and The Maccabees’ ‘Given to the World’, which are all at 14/1, as well as Portico Quartet’s latest eponymous album , and Rumer’s ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ at 16/1 and 20/1 respectively.
The Ting Tings, however, sit at the opposite end of the table, and will have to beat odds of 150/1 if ‘Songs From Nowheresville’ is to pick up the prize.
