Rihanna Achieves Lowest-Selling Number One Album Of All Time

R&B star Rihanna has taken the top spot in the UK Album chart this week, reaching the summit with her sixth studio effort ‘Talk That Talk’.

However, the singer has earned the unfortunate accolade of being the lowest-selling Number One act since the start of chart records, topping the charts after selling only 9.578 copies.

The ‘We Found Love’ singer claims top spot over British rapper and soul singer Plan B, who earns the Number Two spot with ‘Ill Manors’, and US rockers Maroon 5, who sit in Number Three with ‘Overexposed’.

Millward Brown began supplying data to the Official Charts Company in 1994, and since this time no LP has managed to top the charts while selling as few copies as Rihanna’s latest effort. The title was previously held by Olympic Closing Ceremony performer Emeli Sandé, whos album ‘Our Version of Events’ previously returned to the top of the chart eleven weeks ago with sales of 13,430.

This week’s album chart also marks the first time since at least 1994 that an LP has reached the Number One position with sales of fewer than 10,000 units.

Meanwhile, the Barbadian singer has recently suffered a backlash from her former accountants, who she claimed had lost her millions of dollars during her 2009 ‘Last Girl on Earth’ world tour. According to TMZ, accounting firm Berdon LLP have now hit back at the statements, claiming that it was Rihanna’s "own financial action or inaction" which led to the significant losses.
