Superstar rockers Muse have ‘categorically denied’ claims that they stole the idea for ‘Exogenesis’ - a track from their 2009 album ‘The Resistance’ - from a man in Manhattan, whom the band claim they have never heard of.
The band were hit with a $3.5million (£2.2million) lawsuit yesterday, after a songwriter known as Charles Bollfrass claimed that he had written a futuristic ‘rock opera’ screenplay called ‘Exogenesis’ - and showed it to Matt Bellamy and co in 2005. Bollfrass then alleges that the band rejected his proposal - but still used his idea on their album ‘The Resistance’.
Muse have remained silent on the lawsuit up until now, and have released a statement denying all knowledge of Bollfrass and his mystery ‘Exogenesis’ rock opera.
"The claim is complete nonsense, and is categorically denied,” Muse declared in their statement. “It appears to be based on a 'screenplay' which the band never received or saw, produced by someone the band has never heard of. It speaks volumes that the album in question was released a full 3 years ago, and yet this is the first that has been heard of these groundless allegations.”
The band have also said that they’ll be looking at the potential options of a counter-suit or compensation, while it’s understood that Warner Music will also be furiously defending the case. Stay with Stereoboard for more on the story - we’ll keep you up-to-date on the case as it develops.
