South African/American singer-songwriter Dave Matthews - of the Dave Matthews Band - has opened up about his ‘obsession’ with growing old gracefully, admitting that his worries have made him ‘realign things’ in his life.
The world-famous rocker has revealed that often thinks about life, it’s direction, and the inevitably of growing old - something which he says comes out in his and his band’s new album ‘Away from the World’.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Matthews said: “I'm partly obsessed by ageing gracefully. Not that I believe in God... I use God in my songs a lot but I don't have a relationship. I don't know what that means. My sister said, 'You age gracefully so you find out what God wanted you to look like when you're old'. I kind of like that idea... But I like the wrinkles. I woke up three days ago and I thought, 'In 15 years I'm going to be 60'... Wow, that's pretty soon.”
He continued: “It forced me to realign things. There was a momentum that had built up over the years that I sort of didn't feel I had any say... I wanted to stop. So we did... It wasn't like I went to Outer Mongolia and stared at the stars, which I sort of fantasised about doing. But I think it was good for very personal reasons.”
