Evanescence's Amy Lee Hoping For Change In Musical Style

30 year-old singer-songwriter Amy Lee - frontwoman of American rockers Evanescence - has revealed that she’d like to take a break from the band at some point - to work with music ‘not driven by loud guitars’.

The singer is known for her gothic style vocals which were made world famous with the track ‘Bring Me to Life’ back in 2003. Her style is perfectly suited for the mosh-inducing music supplied by the rest of the band, and she’s definitely mastered her trade in the 17 years they've been together, and now she’s ready to try something new - like acoustic tracks or dance music.

Speaking to NME, Lee revealed: “I like all types of music. I feel like Evanescence is a great outlet for what I love, I've never felt like I had to hold myself back. I have written with other people before and come up with ideas that don't work for Evanescence, I realise that now. There's more to me than what's in Evanescence.

“I love folk, that's a big part of my background. I've written music that's a lot simpler and more acoustic and I got into a moment where I'm obsessed with dance music, things like Massive Attack and Portishead. I'd like to do something that's not driven by loud guitars, I love the aggression they bring, but I'd like to try something out.”

With the mention of dance music, a lot of you are probably thinking ‘here we go, another metal turned dubstep crossover’ - well Lee’s way ahead of you, and she’s ruled out creating any cheesey wobble tracks in the future, saying “I should have done it when it was first around, I can't do it now! I don't like doing what people expect, I'm not a bandwagon jumper.”

It may not be long before we see some different and new material from Lee - she’s previously said that Evanescence will be taking a long break after their up and coming UK tour. With that said, their November gigs may be the last time some of you get to see the band for a long time - so make sure you don’t miss out.
