Maverick Sabre - O2 Academy, Newcastle - 21st September 2012 (Live Review)

It’s been a busy week for Maverick Sabre. Not only has Maverick been nominated for a MOBO Award and confirmed that he will appear on the new remake of the War of the Worlds album, he has also begun his brand new UK tour.

ImageThe last time Maverick Sabre performed at the O2 Academy in Newcastle, he was situated in the Academy 2 which is a very small room and perfect for intimate gigs. This year Maverick and his support acts performed in the main stage area. It just goes to show how much his popularity has increased in the past 12 months.

First up to hit the stage was solo artist Daley and I was gobsmacked with his vocal talent. I had never heard of Daley before attending tonight's gig and I will certainly be looking out for material from him in future. He is set to release a track entitled 'Remember Me' which will also feature Jessie J.

Daley was given a fabulous reception from the Geordie crowd and even forgot what city he was in on just the second night of the tour! He thanked the crowd, saying that he was happy to be in Liverpool, only to be quickly corrected by the crowd as everyone laughed it off.

I go to a lot of concerts and see a lot of support acts, some you tend to never hear of again. However, Daley is one of the best support acts I have seen in a while and I hope to see him perform as the main act very soon. His vocals were outstanding throughout his set.

Ms Dynamite was due to perform after Daley, however, after the event she took to Twitter to confirm why she didn't perform due to a family emergency.

Next up was the man that everyone had come to see - Maverick Sabre!

The first track that Maverick performed was 'Open My Eyes' which was taken from his debut album 'Lonely Are The Brave'. Maverick did advise the crowd that his throat wasn't feeling too good and hoped it would hold out during the show. From a fan's perspective, Maverick's vocal performance was outstanding all night and if he hadn't tweeted about it or mentioned it during the show, then no one would have been any wiser.

Maverick next performed further tracks from his debut album that includes 'Memories', 'I Can Never Be', 'I Use To Have It All' and 'Sometimes'. All tracks were performed without any hint of difficulty from Maverick. 'Just Smile' was a brand new track that doesn't feature on his album. The crowd loved the track and it will hopefully feature on his next album as a single.

'They Found Him A Gun' was performed brilliantly with just Maverick and his guitar on stage, the crowd singing along much to the star's delight.

For anyone that is a Maverick Sabre will know that Bob Marley is one his musical influences and he performed his tribute to the star with his version of 'Get Up'. The crowd went wild when Maverick's band started to play the chords for 'No One'. Halfway through the track, the band mixed it up and launched into a dubstep remix of 'No One'. The crowd lapped it up and were bouncing around and singing along to the track.

The rest of the set list featured more tracks from 'Lonely Are The Brave' and these included 'Let Me Go', 'Shooting Stars' and 'I Need'.

Overall, there was no hint of Maverick struggling vocally, as every note he sung throughout the show was perfect. Having already seen Maverick perform in a smaller part of the venue last year, it was amazing to see his fan base grow to accommodate a larger venue this time around. The show was outstanding and his backing band once again were exceptional.
