Morrissey And Johnny Marr Offered Meat-Coachella Festival For Smiths Performance

Superstar vocalist, and vegetarian, Morrissey has revealed that the organisers of California’s hugely-popular Coachella Festival offered to make their event 100% meat-free if he and his Smiths bandmate Johnny Marr were to reunite.

The Smiths have been subject to speculation of a reunion ever since they broke up, but in the past couple of days, there have been heavy rumours and insane amounts of talk that at least three of the four bandmembers - Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce (with Joyce the questionable fourth) - would be getting back together for 2013 shows, including Coachella and Glastonbury.

Speaking to the Herald Sun yesterday, Morrissey has now revealed how Coachella recently made the offer - and added that the organisers weren’t too concerned with anyone other than him and Marr performing at the potential gig.

“Interestingly the agents for Coachella offered a 100% vegetarian event for the following year if I would agree to headline with Johnny Marr as the Smiths,” he told the paper. “Fascinatingly they made it clear that they would 'not require' the Smiths' bass player or drummer ... which I thought certainly said something.”

It’s not the first time Coachella have pitched them a deal to perform at their festival - in 2006, Morrissey revealed that they’d offered the band $5million for a headline performance at the event. They were also allegedly offered $75million for a 50-date world tour in 2007 - though there is speculation as to how truthful those claims are.
