A shadow of doubt has been cast over the hugely-talked about Smiths reunion, after guitarist Johnny Marr’s manager told NME that ‘it isn’t happening’.
There has been intense speculation that The Smiths would be reforming for four shows next year, with Morrissey even revealing that organisers of Coachella were prepared to make their festival meat-free in order to secure a headline slot for the band at their next event.
There has been many a rumour of The Smiths returning ever since they split back in 1987, but there’s never been as much weight behind one as there is this time round. Now, though, some of the weight has been shed - after Johnny Marr’s manager Joe Moss claimed that the rumours aren’t true.
Instead, Marr will apparently be spending all of his time working on a new solo album and performing his own shows, with Moss telling the site: “It isn't happening. We are fully focused on preparing Johnny's new album for release and booking shows for 2013.”
What do you think of the whole affair - is a reunion likely, or is it just another rumour? Do you even want to see them back together? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
