Deftones' Chino Moreno 'Not A Big Fan' Of Dubstep

In the past couple of years, we’ve seen the notorious genre of dubstep take over the music world, with Skrillex winning a Grammy, wobbly tracks filling the charts, and even some of the most hardcore metal bands turning to the 140bpm genre for a change of style.

But, one of those metal bands you may (or may not) be happy to know that won’t be turning to dubstep is Californian outfit Deftones, with their frontman Chino Moreno admitting that he is ‘not a big fan’ of the genre.

Speaking to American station KROQ, Moreno revealed: “I love some electronic music. I'm not a big fan of dubstep but there is so much good electronic music out there. I grew up in the eighties, that's probably why I like some of the earlier electronic from Kraftwerk to all throughout new wave and things like that.”

He continued: “A band like Depeche Mode would go out and record them hitting a trash can with a steel rod or something and recording it. And that would be one of their sounds of the drums. I love the creativeness of that kind of really raw sampling.”

So, you can be sure that the band’s forthcoming new album ‘Koi No Yokan’ - out November 12th - will feature their alternative metal style which we all know and love. Stay with Stereoboard for more on this band - we’ll let you know if they decided to tour the album over here in the UK.
