Iconic GnR frontman Axl Rose has revealed that he was once took a break from writing music - because Slash and Duff McKagan called him a ‘loser’!
The world-famous star, who wrote tracks such as ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, confessed that there was a period in which he had a slump in his songwriting ability - because he took to heart some of the harsh criticism his bandmates (and girlfriend!) gave him.
“To those three [Slash, Duff, and his then girlfriend Stephanie Seymour], it was all crap,” Slash told USA Today. “It beat me down so much. At the time of the ('Use Your Illusion') tours, Slash and Duff said, 'You're an idiot, you're a loser.' I didn't write for years. I felt I was hindered for a very long time.
“I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it's right to be venting and when you're digging a bigger hole. Lyrics on 'Chinese Democracy' took a long time.”
Rose seems to have recovered from his writers block and is back on the scene with the new look Guns N Roses line-up. They just kicked off their residency in Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel - American readers, check the link below to find tickets.
