Shields Release Cover Of SBTRKT Anthem 'Pharaohs' - Listen Now

Wednesday, 07 November 2012 Written by Catherine Rea

Hotly tipped Newcastle alternative pop band Shields release their explosive SBTRKT’s cover anthem “Pharaohs”, a bonus track from their upcoming album “Kaleidoscope” which will be released on November 19th.

The five-piece set will release their free EP download on their website in the next few weeks, though the cover of smash 2011 hit previously performed by SBTRKT will be available on iTunes and CD version only. The cover is considered a sensationally creative reimagining and rework of the anthem “Pharaohs” and not initially the sort of artist fans would imagine the band to cover, though with a Shield-esque makeover the track seamlessly flows with the other five songs worked onto the EP.

Guitarist and vocalist Luke Elgie said, “we’ve been touring a lot this year, and one of the records that found its way onto the stereo on the bus most frequently was the SBTRKT album. We just thought we could do our own version of “Pharaohs” so jammed it out in our practice room and it clicked."

The video shows the band dressed up in their own homemade masks in admiration to SBTRKT and drops hints to the bands spectacular live show.

The alternative-rock group have recently finished tours with To Kill A King and Wintersleep, and have previously shared stages with names such as Theme Park, Neon Indian, The Naked And Famous” as well as Zulu Winter.

Following the EP release this month the band will be set to record their debut album which is set to be released in the spring of 2013.
