Metric Unveil 'Breathing Underwater' Video - Watch Now

Cult Canadian rockers Metric have revealed that they’ll release their brand new single ‘Breathing Underwater’ on December 3rd - but have unveiled a brilliant video for it which you can check out below.

The single is the latest track to be taken from the band's widely acclaimed new album ‘Synthetica’, which garnered critical acclaim both here (where the band performed a sell-out show at Shepherds Bush Empire) and internationally.

‘Breathing Underwater’ is the deft meld of Haines’ lyrical disenchantment with the muscular indie drive which Metric have made their calling card over an incredible 12 year career. Jimmy Shaw's guitar lines arc and surge above propulsive drums, whilst Haines alludes to disillusionment: ‘They were right when they said we should never meet our heroes’ and disorientation ‘Nights are days / we'll beat a path through the mirrored maze’ in ever-crystalline signature vocals.

‘Synthetica’, the band's fifth album, was released independently through the band's own Metric Music International (MMI) label, following on from the incredible success of its predecessor ‘Fantasies’ (which picked up 2 Juno Awards and was a Top 20 American radio hit, all without the backing of a traditional label).

The album explores unsettling, dystopian elements of our modern world, with a backdrop of futuristic synths and Jimmy Shaw's melodic guitar work. Speaking about the record's themes, iconic frontwoman Emily Haines says; ‘Synthetica is about insomnia, fucking up, fashion, all the devices and gadgets we attach to our brains, getting wasted, watching people die in other countries, watching people die in your own country, dancing your ass off, questioning the cops, poetic justice, standing up for yourself, sex, the apocalypse’.

Check out the ‘Breathing Underwater’ video below, and look out for the single when it drops next month.
