Chemical Ally Kicks Off Rooted Recordings With First Release

Rooted Recordings is a brand new drum and bass label that comes from West Walian DJ and producer Chemical Ally. With years upon years of dance music experience under his belt, ranging from free parties in the 90s to warehouse parties in the early 00s, Ally has set his focus on drum and bass - and now, years after falling in love with the genre, he’s started his own label.

And so, having fallen in love with it many years ago, it’s no surprise that Ally’s label seems to be aiming to bring back some of the older, harder, and more raw styles of the genre. This may even have something to do with the name ‘Rooted’ - he’s quite literally returning to the roots of drum and bass.

Their first release showcases exactly that, with Chemical Ally’s tune ‘Imagination of Yourself’ given a boot back to the 90s by veteran producer Spirit. With a driving horn-synth bassline and harsh, rolling percussion, this track is reminiscent of old Renegade Hardware releases or, dare I say it, the legendary Bad Company.

It’s flipside is a track from Ukrainian producer Fade, entitled ‘Insider’. This tune’s bassline is incredibly low and murky - it’s one of those tunes that makes you instantly think ‘that would sound large on a big system’ - and along with similarly raw percussion (and a lovely filtered break that comes in every so often), ‘Insider’ is a delightfully evil track.

‘Imagination of Yourself’ and ‘Insider’ will be featured on the vinyl release, which dropped today. If you buy it digitally, you’ll also receive another tasty track, this time coming from rising Russian 2Sides. Entitled ‘True Skull’, this tune is slightly more up-to-date that the previous two, but equally as good in the bassline department. The rolling, neuro-style drums are what separates this tune from the others, and the looped vocal after the drop works perfectly - it’s perhaps a shame that this track didn’t make it to vinyl too.

As usual, you can check out the tracks below - keep an eye out for more from Rooted Recordings in the future.
