Former Creation Boss Alan McGee To Setup New Record Label In Wales

Alan McGee, owner of Creation Records - and manager of some of the world’s biggest bands - has revealed that he’ll be basing his brand new record label in Wales.

McGee managed bands such as Oasis, Primal Scream, and The Libertines before his retirement from the game in 2008 but, after being invited to help curate Tokyo Rocks 2013, he’s got his ‘itch for music back’ - and is now starting up a brand new record label in Wales.

Speaking to Dangerous Minds, McGee said: “At first, we thought of calling it Creation, but then you know, I was never that sold on the name Creation anyway. But what became apparent, when we started talking about starting a new label, the thing is you have to find a new way of doing it.

“Creation worked for everybody and this has to work for everybody, but you can’t use that 1990’s business model for 2013... We want a new way of doing things, we want to work in a kind of partnership with people, which works for everyone involved.”

The label is to be set up inside a disused chapel in Talgarth, Wales. Commenting on the location, McGee said: “I bought this chapel in Wales, it’s an amazing chapel. The only things that are for sale in Wales are pubs and chapels. Because nobody goes to church and nobody can afford to go to the pub. I bought the chapel in Talgarth and that is going to be the base for whatever we do. It’s going to be in Talgarth, South Wales.”
